SLED Background Checks

You can personally obtain a criminal history background check on yourself by contacting SLED either through the Internet or by telephone only:

1. Via the internet at www.SLED.STATE.SC.US   With credit or check card for payment, they will immediately transmit the information to your computer terminal, for printing.

2.. Via mail, requests should be mailed to their offices at:

The cost, in all three instances is $25.00 per background check, for employment and $8.00 per background check obtained for the purposes of housing. Payment must to be in the form of a money order, business check, master card, or visa card (No cash or personal checks).

**ALL REQUESTS FOR CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUNDS FROM SLED HAVE TO CONTAIN
THE PERSON'S FULL NAME, DATE OF BIRTH AND
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

Information can also be obtained from the Spartanburg County Clerk of Courts Office on the second floor of the courthouse, located at 180 Magnolia Street.  Be advised, they will not give you anything in writing, to take back to an employer or housing office.  They merely have a public access area for obtaining criminal history information.

The Spartanburg Count Sheriff's Office Records Division can provide you with copies of incident reports, etc. and we will attempt to assist you with further information if possible.
