New Sheriff in Town-Chuck Wright
Defeated 71 year old Democratic candidate John “Jack” Owens, with a final vote count of 66,670 to 27,687 according to unofficial results. Wright won nearly 71% of the vote, fought a close race in the June Primary with the four-term incumbent Sheriff Bill Coffey; turning a 64-vote deficit into a win 2 weeks later in the run-off for the Republican Nomination.
